I am disturbed by a trend that seems to be occuring...The law says that discrimination based on sex is wrong and won't be tolerated so people do it on the sly. It even says discrimination based on sexual orientation is illegal, so that too is never done in the open. And we all know that racial discrimination is the most overt form but also not tolerated. But why is it ok to discriminate against someone who is overweight?
I know you are probably thinking "What prompted this post?" Well, I try to keep myself informed and read papers from all over the country....so here was the headline I saw:
Two Seats Needed? 300-Pound Woman Sues Airline
So I was like huh? and read further..... CONCORD, N.H. -- A discrimination trial began Tuesday in the case of a 300-pound Exeter, N.H., woman who sued Southwest Airlines after she was kicked off a flight when she refused to purchase two seats for herself. Much of Nadine Thompson's original complaint was thrown out by a federal judge on Monday. But her attorneys said that they believe they still have a strong case. "I'm hoping that justice will be served and hoping to get a fair case," Thompson said. "It's been painful." In June 2003, Thompson boarded a Southwest flight to Nashville. Seeing that her legs and hip protruded onto the next seat, a supervisor told Thompson she'd have to purchase another ticket. The airline has a standard policy for "customers of size," (code word for what they consider fat people - This is just MzNewAgenda talking) but Thompson said no one at the ticket counter mentioned it. She said that she showed that she could safely put down the armrest and refused to buy another seat. ___________________________________________ So after reading that, I got pissed 'cause we have laws that protect every other kind of discrimination but folks can be mean to overweight but it seems to be ok with society at large. *Stepping down of my soapbox* You may now return to your regularly scheduled blogging.....Woman Removed From Plane After Refusing To Buy Second Ticket

See the way folks look at it is "Oh you can't stop being black, or gay or a woman but you can lose weight so we can treat you whatever way". That is some straight up
. I hope she wins her case. I hope she lets companies and people in general know that it is wrong to mistreat people for whatever reason. No matter what your personal preference is about anything, you have know right to judge anyone. And if I said I like tall men with dimples and nice hair and a big
but that doesn't mean I can mistreat everyone else who does not fit my "ideal image".
